MEGA is a full service gymnastics training facility for children and young adults. We offer gymnastics for fun and fitness seekers as well as serious competitors. Area children will benefit physically and mentally from the array of programs available at MEGA. State of the art equipment, competent professional coaching and a facility as big as its name implies, makes MEGA the choice destination for gymnastics and tumbling.
MEGA is co-owned by Steve Merena, Dave Trupp and Bill Williamson.
Their goal is to provide quality instruction in the sport of gymnastics for children. Our hope is to generate an atmosphere, of safety, fun and achievement as well as promote characteristics such as hard work, honesty and communication. Our MEGA philosophy is simple:
Motivate
Encourage
Guide
Achieve
Steve
Merena – Head Coach
Coach
Steve is responsible for the overall operation, set-up and development
of the gymnastics program. He is known for his ability to evaluate
a gymnast’s current skill level and encourage his/her development
of appropriate new skills. He promotes solid execution of skills
by reinforcing excellent technique and good work ethic.
Coach Steve started competing at Schaumburg High School, IL where he was the IL High School State Champion on rings in 1980 & 1981. Steve was a member of The Ohio State University team where he received an athletic scholarship. He competed on 3 Big Ten Championship teams (1983, 1985 & 1987) and Ohio State’s first Men’s Gymnastics NCAA Championship team (1985). Steve has 29 years experience with the sport of gymnastics and began coaching in 1983 as a camp counselor in Cable, WI (Camp Tsukara). Since then he has coached both girls & boys gymnastics for the IHSA and boys levels 4-10 for the USAG.
Bill
Williamson – General Manager
Bill is responsible for the day to day operations of the gym. Additionally he supervises and manages all staff. He has earned a reputation for his fair and honest leadership and strong belief in excellence at every level. His belief in open communication allows him to manage objectively and be effective.
In addition to previously being involved in the management of another gymnastics club, Bill also owned and operated his own successful insurance brokerage, and mobile disc jockey service. He is a sports enthusiast and believes in participation, competition and winning. The sport of gymnastics allows children the opportunity to do all three and that's one of the things he loves about it.
Bill also enjoys working with people and building relationships. He is an active member of the Elgin Chamber of Commerce and very involved in local civic activities and events. He feels that an atmosphere of positive communication is the key to successful interaction between people whether it's customers, coaches, managers or children. Bill and his wife Janine live in Elgin with their two young boys that both enjoy gymnastics!
Dave Trupp – Business Manager
Dave is responsible for the administration and development of
the business. Additionally, he oversees facility functions. His
attention to detail and excellent ability to manage projects has
lent itself to ensuring that MEGA is an inviting, fun, and safe
facility.
With 18 years experience in law enforcement, 11 of which as a
supervisor, Dave is no stranger to developing and implementing
new ideas. His Masters in business (MBA) and administrative
background also serves to make sure that our gym is run
effectively and efficiently.
Dave became involved in gymnastics as a result of his daughter's
interest in the sport. Like his partners, he is currently a USAG
Professional Member and Safety Certified. However, he holds the
distinction of maintaining a USAG Meet Director Certification.
In 2006 and 2007 he was the Meet Director for two successful
girls invitational meets for a local gymnastics club. Dave and
his wife Danette live in Elgin and continue to enjoy gymnastics
with both of their children.
